Personal counselling services
The role of a WIN's counsellor is to provide emotional support, guidance, and assistance to students facing personal challenges or issues. The counsellor serves as a confidential and non-judgmental resource, helping students navigate various aspects of their lives and well-being. Key responsibilities of a college personal counsellor include:
- Offering a safe space for students to express their feelings, concerns, and struggles. The counsellor provides empathy, understanding, and encouragement to help students cope with emotional challenges.
- Responding to urgent or crisis situations, such as mental health emergencies or traumatic events, and providing immediate support. The counsellor may collaborate with other professionals to ensure the student's safety and well-being.
- Conducting one-on-one counselling sessions to address personal issues, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and other emotional difficulties. The counsellor helps students explore their thoughts and feelings and develop coping strategies.
- Connecting students with relevant resources, such as mental health services, support groups, or community organisations. The counsellor may collaborate with external agencies to ensure comprehensive care.
- Organising and facilitating workshops or training sessions on topics related to mental health, stress management, resilience, and well-being. These sessions aim to provide students with tools and information to enhance their mental health.
- Offering guidance on stress reduction, time management, and healthy lifestyle choices to prevent mental health issues and promote overall well-being.
- Collaboration with other services at WIN such as student support officers, academic advisors and educators to provide holistic support to students.
- Ensuring the privacy and confidentiality of students' personal information shared during counselling sessions, unless there is a risk of harm to the student or others, in which case appropriate measures may be taken.
